Managing Medication in Homecare

Caroline was delighted to be invited to host a panel session at the 2021 Care show.

The panel consisted of Prof Julia Riley from the Marsden Hospital, Nice Fellow Juliette Milard from Newcross Healthcare,  Medicines implementation consultant from NICE,  Michelle Liddy and from Coventry and Warwickshire CCG Kathryn Smith, Care Home support pharmacist. A very prestigious panel indeed!

The discussion around how we can keep people who have care in their own home safe and to help maximise their benefit from their medications was well received by an audience of home care managers. Everyone identified with the problems which can arise, be that at 9 at night with a carer in a home alone trying to make sense of medications which have been changed be a hospital appointment or when starting a new client in care and trying to establish which medications they take and when. 

The audience feedback included a request for more opportunity for managers to discuss these important issues. Caroline is planning to set up a series of workshops for that purpose.
