Anti-bacterial gels are no substitute for a proper wash!

Posted: 6th March 2020

Try and find a bottle of anti-bacterial gel on your supermarket shelves and you'll probably struggle. But don't worry, it's no substitute for a thorough handwash with soap and hot water.

Yes, gels do serve a purpose and are better than nothing when you're out and about. If your hands are not visibly dirty, alcohol-based gels will kill some or all of the germs present. But they won't wash away whatever is on your hands, they'll just move it around.

Washing your hands regularly with soap and hot water, for 20 seconds, will always be a more effective defence against infection.

So buy some soap - there's plenty left!
