Top tips on job applications

Posted 1st December 2020

Since we opened our doors almost ten years ago, we've employed hundreds of people and had job enquiries from many thousands... so we know what a good application looks like.

And sadly, the good one are rare. Even sadder is the fact that, behind a poor application, there might be the world's most dedicated, passionate and caring worker.

So, if you're considering applying for a job with us (or anywhere else for that matter), here are 5 tips from the Doris team:

  1. Think about the job you're applying for. Read everything you can about the job on offer and try to build a good understanding of what the employer is looking for.
  2. Do your research on the company offering the role. Read their website, Google them, find out everything you can about the company. What are their values? What sets them apart? Do you really want to work from them, and if so, why?
  3. TAILOR your application. From the very first contact, demonstrate your understanding of the role and explain how your skills, qualifications and experience could be both relevant and valuable to the employer. Show how you could be the "perfect fit".
  4. Do not be under any illusion - job hunting is a long, slow, repetitive process. Unless you are very fortunate, you will have to write loads of letters, have many interviews and maintain your very best, most positive self throughout every one. If you don't, it'll only be you who loses out.
  5. A little time and effort makes all the difference. We guarantee you this: If you can persuade us, with a combination of your CV and a well-written, tailored accompanying letter, that you could be a great addition to the Doris team, we will invite you to interview.

It is tough looking for work, particularly at the moment. But we are always looking for outstanding people to join our team. Convince us we need you... and you could be our next recruit!

GOOD LUCK!!
