A fall at home needn’t mean a hospital visit
Improving Safety and Reducing Hospital Visits with the Mangar Camel Lifting Cushion at Doris Jones Homecare
At Doris Jones Homecare, we are committed to providing safe, responsive care that enhances the wellbeing of our clients. As part of this commitment, we are pleased to use the Mangar Camel Lifting Cushion—a specialised device designed to help safely lift clients who have experienced a fall.
The Mangar Camel is used in situations where a client has fallen but is uninjured and simply unable to get up independently. The cushion inflates in stages, allowing our carers to gently raise the individual into a comfortable seated or standing position with minimal physical effort. This process is calm, dignified, and far less distressing for clients than traditional lifting methods.
Importantly, using the Camel can help avoid the need for paramedic attendance or unnecessary hospital admissions—outcomes that can be both disruptive and traumatic for older or vulnerable individuals. For families, this offers peace of mind, knowing that their loved one can be safely supported at home in the event of a fall.
This service supports a quicker return to normal routine, reduces the risk of hospital-acquired complications, and promotes independence. However, it is important to note that if our team is called out specifically to assist with a fall using the Mangar Camel, additional charges may be incurred to cover our carer’s time during the visit.
