The value of a trip out
Posted: 13th April 2022
This is Mr O, one of our clients, enjoying a lovely walk in the sunshine with one of our carers this week.
Mr O has not left the house for months and his daughter told us that it usually takes her three hours to persuade him. He suffers from PTSD from his time in the army, and this combined with his dementia means he finds it very difficult to deal with situations which are not the norm for him as he hallucinates an awful lot.
During a visit this week, one of our carers Becky offered to take Mr O for a walk around the block and he was delighted to go. Although it was a lovely day it was very windy, so Becky took Mr O around his local area for a drive with Mr O giving Becky a guided tour of all the places he recognised. He was delighted when he got home that he managed to pluck up the confidence to go on a mini trip out and about.
Becky said, “It’s days like today when it just makes it all worthwhile and I have really made a difference”.
Mr O’s daughter also said, “That’s so lovely, thank you. You’ve made me cry happy tears today instead of sad ones”.
